23rd Nov: Something Fishy....
Preview by Graham Crothers (Alternative Ulster) November 2004
Saturday 27th November is a date worth looking forward to when deep house dons Fish Go Deep appear at Imprint, Basement Bar, Belfast, for the launch of their upcoming album ‘Lil’ Hand’- and its an NI exclusive date t‘boot!
Fish Go Deep are Greg Dowling and Shane Johnson. They have recently begun a new residency at Fast Eddies in quality clubbing music mecca Cork. The club night ‘Go Deep’ recently relocated after a year of madness which included pretty special names like Needs and Charles Webster to pick out just a few. Spinning since the late 80’s their residency at Ireland’s longest running and best known house club, Sweat at Sir Henry’s in Cork, spanned more than a decade and influenced a generation of Irish clubbers and deejays, not to mention that they brought over outright heavyweights in the form of Joe Clausell, Derrick Carter, Kerri Chandler and Herbert. Their production work meanwhile has been released on such labels as Brique Rogue and Chez Music.
On the night they will assisted by Tracey Kelliher on vocal duties, who appears on a number of tracks off the forthcoming album. A regular on the Irish DJ circuit, Tracey has played high profile gigs at dance music festivals down south such as Cork Jazz and Heineken Groove Weekenders. She also supported hip hop legends The Roots on their only Irish concert as well as Groove Armada back in 1999 at the Cork Opera House. If the show is even half as good as it was the last time they played Belfast then we’re in store for a stonking night.
The album is expected by the end of the year. Be on the lookout.
05th Nov: 2004 DJ Mag top 100 results
Well its here folks this years DJ Mag top 100 results are below;
Unfortunately Chris didnt make it this year (always next time though)
For a record-breaking third year in a row, the Dutch master Tiësto holds the number one spot. There really is no disputing this man's position in the hearts of clubbers across the globe. Previously, Paul Oakenfold and Carl Cox have both won the award twice, but Tiësto has taken things to a whole new level with his 25,000 capacity stadium gigs and DJing at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games to a TV audience in excess of 4.5 billion. There really is no other individual who could claim the title of Top 100 DJ 2004, and we congratulate Tiësto for his amazing achievement, and the Poll's first ever 'treble'!
Keep your eyes peeled here though for the next 150 Coming November 12th Which DJs received thousands of votes but didnt quite make it in to the 100

Review
Belfasts Mixmaster imprint is back, this time with a track from head A&R boy, Chris Cargo. Chris tribally techy sound has ventured onto some of the top labels recently including ACDC where his remix of Alex Joons 'Deep Down' was absolutely blinding. Surprisingly though, its not his production, which is still very good, that has got me all hot and bothered here, its the stunning remix from Graham L. Graham pumps the action up and delivers a track that verges on full-on techno but has all the right proggy elements that I think will keep you guys very happy indeed.
8/8 (Derek Taylor) M8 Magazine
You can buy the single from the Mixmaster Records' Website

Prodigy frontman Keith Flint has been telling Radio 1 about his forthcoming plans and the dance punk's diary is looking pretty full.
Radio 1 caught up with Keith at Creamfields, where he was on stage with his new outfit Clever Brains Fryin. He told us it's a busy time for him:
"We're doing a small Uni tour and then I'm in the studio with the Prod. I'll do some bits there for the live show and the tour that's coming up there."
"I'm just on the road 24/7, from one gig to another and that's all good. That's what I love, that's why I'm here, so it's not going to be difficult for me at all."

18th May: Sasha returns with new album
Sasha returns with the follow up to his artist album 'Airdrawndagger' with 'Involver' . In this new project for Global Underground, Sasha pushes the boundaries for himself as a DJ by combining the concept of a DJ compilation with the essence of a producer/artist album. 'Involver' contains special Sasha remixes and re-creations that were exclusively recorded for this album. Sasha has chosen some of his favourite tunes including music from Felix da Housecat, Spooky and Petter.
Sasha says: "Things like The Youngsters and Spooky are tracks that I've been playing for two or three years. I'm presenting them back out into the world again my own way which is exactly what DJs always talk about doing. They don't have the tools to do that when they are in a club. The fact that I got all the separate parts to the mixes and put it all back together to create my own sound is the ultimate form of DJing."
Below is the complete track listing;
01 GRAND NATIONAL - TALK AMONGST YOURSELVES
02 SHPONGLE - DORSET PERCEPTION
03 PETTER - THESE DAYS
04 UNKLE - WHAT ARE YOU TO ME?
05 THE YOUNGSTERS - SMILE
06 SPOOKY - BELONG
07 UNKLE - IN A STATE
08 LOSTEP - BURMA
09 FELIX DA HOUSECAT - WATCHING CARS GO BY
10 ULRICH SCHNAUSS - ON MY OWN
04th May: Chris Cargo for Alex Joon Remix gets a release
Alex Joon - Deep Down
A. Original
B. Chris Cargo Remix
Catalogue No. ACDC 206
Release Date: Out Now!
The new release from Swedish ACDC comes by courtesy of Alex Joon, a talented producer that has been DJ-ing in and around Gothenburg for the last 15 years. Two years ago he started up his own label, Deleet Records, dedicated to afro-funky-house. Through his hunger and dedication for house music, he has become a diverse producer today. Alex has been producing progressive trance with Matenda, soulful vocal house as Soulmate and tribalistic progressive house as Alex Joon.
Deep Down is as dark, dirty and tribal as it gets. It was actually laying around the office for a while before it was re-discovered on a CDR with other tracks. It was tried out the same weekend to massive reactions.
For the flipside we requested the remixing skills of Chris Cargo, one of Ireland's finest DJs and producers who has had numerous releases on labels such as Choo Choo, Automatic and Play House Recordings. His aptly named Sleuth night, a monthly event in Belfast attracted the worlds finest DJs/producers from the Progressive scene running for 4 successful years until its demise in 2001. Chris, seen as one of the pioneers of Progressive House in Ireland is today gracing the decks all over the world.
The remix has gained early support by Anthony Pappa, Seb Fontaine, Barry Gilbey and heaps of others.

29th Jan: Reviews of Chris' Remix of Minilogue V's Kab track 'Join the Minicab'
Chris's latest remix see's him remixing top swedish producers Minilogue, known for their tracks on Sog and Baroque. This time they find themselves teaming up with Kab for the first outing for new portugal imprint feed me.
Chris's mix has been gaining huge support from the likes of Satoshi Tomiie, Tom Stephan who spun it on his Kiss fm show, Canada's Greg Benz, Power/Southern fm's Paul Hilliyer - who says "like the Chris Cargo mix, he can't do wrong lately to be honest. played at Cream, Brighton the other week plus in my box and on the shows, Quiver and Metrodance's Romina Rodriguez says "i really love this kind of records! it's an excellent quality proggie tune that combines all those elements that make the track essential for the dj. Chris Cargo's remix is huuuuuuugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
As well as peaking in the Balance Chart at number 4, the track has gained many reviews which can be read below.
DJ MAG
Minilogue have impressed for some time, quietly doing their own thing in the realm of 'forward thinking house music', so it's good to see something new from them having combined forces with Karl-Axel Bissler on brand spanking new Portuguese label, Feed Me. 'Join the Minikab' ambles along as a nice deep house track for a bout 3 minutes until all manner of oddness emerges from a full orchestra to creepy but hooky little lead and the hint of a operatic female vocal a la pole folder. in the latter parts, these fx are give a distinct guitar waa-waa and the track has grown into something ofepic proportions. brilliantly built, funny, gripping and slightly worrying. i grow in appreciation at every outing!
4.5/5 - sureplayer Nick Bates (DJ Mag)
IDJ Progressive House reviews
An impressive start for new Portugal imprint Feed Me Records courtesy of the Swedes Minilogue, who gave us the excellent 'in a deeper motion' on Baroque, and Karl-Axel Bissler. It's a warm, atmospheric affair with female vocal snatches, synths and strings building the track up. On the flip Choo Choo's Chris Cargo offers up a more stripped-down affair with the focus more on the groove. ****

A couple of well known prog names teaming up for a nice original here on feed me. It's a nice bouncy techy progressive track built around subtle chords and sweeping strings and some of the tightest percussion programming out there. the Chris Cargo mix on the flip is a true tech-house delight, he combines some nice lush old-school pad sounds with some nice pumping percussion.
3Beat Records
Warm prog from this awesome new Portugese label. Beautiful synths and a creepy distorted lead with hints of female vocal sums up the main mix, while Chris Cargo remix is a housey yet hypnotic mix. Cool!

Feed Me Records is a brand new label from lovely Lisbon, Portugal. Their focus will be on progressive, techy, and trancey beats, produced by some of the world's biggest talents. Their first release is a great tune by Minilogue vs Kab. Swedish producers Minilogue have recently had releases out on Baroque and Sog, which gained support from the big jocks and bedroom listeners alike. Kab is Karl-Axel Bissler who lends a hand in the studio turning knobs.
'Join the Minikab' is a smooth progressive cut with a great deeper house mix by Chris Cargo on the flip.
The 'Original mix' is a nice progressive track. Warm melodies and groovy percussion lead the way into a nice moving bassline. Ambient sounds swim above, while a smooth female voice sample comes in, softly and real sounding, with just a touch of trippy effects. We fall into an orchestral breakdown with swooping synths and wonderful tones. A gritty distorted lead comes in, and slithers through the rhythm. This is an amazing tune that will work wonders on the dancefloor.
The flipside features a remix by Irish Dj 'Chris Cargo'. known for his deep tribal house sets from Ibiza and beyond, his remix has a deeper vibe than the original. percussion starts in with shakers, toms, and nice highs, as a murky low bass comes up underneath. Dreamy tones roll over the drums, while a cut up vocal sample is dropped ever so slightly in. this is a really cool remix that could drop into a warm up set perfectly.
Feed Me Records starts out on the right foot with a big release from Minilogue vs. Kab, and a great remix by Chris Cargo. Forthcoming releases will come from Moshic, Kasey Taylor, and many others.
